Yoga Studio 181 follows the teachings of
T Krishnamacharya and his son TKV
Desikachar. Prof T Krishnamacharya revived the traditional teaching and discipline of Yoga. He believed that its philosophy and practice have universal relevance. While Yoga's roots are in India, it has now spread throughout the world, largely through the influence of some of his students including Indra Devi, BKS Iyengar, Pattabhi Jois, TKV Desikachar and AG Mohan. Sri Krishnamacharya was both traditionalist and innovator, adapting the ancient practices of yoga to suit the needs of the different students who came to him, men and women. One of his main contributions was his use of Yoga for therapeutic purposes.

The approach is holistic and each student is treated as a unique person. This respect for the individual is crucial to the healing process.

"Breath is central to Yoga because it is central to life . . . and Yoga is about life."
(T.Krishnamacharya)
